License: Lifetime (one-time payment, ongoing updates)

1) Overview

Duplicate Media adds a Duplicate action link to the Media Library list view.
It lets you quickly copy any attachment (e.g., an image) into a new file and attachment post.
The plugin duplicates the physical file, regenerates metadata, and copies the original ALT text when available.

2) Requirements & Compatibility

  • WordPress 5.4 or newer (recommended 5.8+).

  • User capability: upload_files (typically Editor, Author, or Administrator).

  • Translations are loaded automatically from the /languages directory.

3) Installation

  1. Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and select the ZIP file.

  2. Click Install Now, then Activate.

  3. After activation, it is recommended to enter your license key (see Section 4) to enable automatic updates.

Updates: the plugin checks for updates from Lieska’s update service and installs them normally via WordPress.

4) License (Lifetime) & Updates

  • The license is lifetime — pay once, use forever.

  • Enter your license under Settings → Lieska Plugin Licenses, anchor #duplicate-media.

  • If the license is missing, you’ll see a dashboard notice and a reminder in the plugin update message.

5) Usage

5.1 Media Library (List View)

  1. Open Media → Library in list view (not grid).

  2. Hover over a file and click Duplicate.

  3. When successful, you’ll see a confirmation alert and the page reloads.
The duplicated file appears as a new attachment with its own copy of the original file.

What is duplicated?

  • The file is copied into the current uploads directory with a unique name
    (format: *-copy-<timestamp>.ext).

  • WordPress regenerates metadata using wp_generate_attachment_metadata().

  • The ALT text is copied if the original had one.

5.2 Notes & Limitations

  • The Duplicate action appears only in list view, not grid view.

  • Security: the plugin checks user capability and a nonce for each request.

  • If file copying fails (e.g., permissions issue), an error message is displayed.

6) Settings

Duplicate Media does not add a separate settings page.
You can manage the license centrally via:
Settings → Lieska Plugin Licenses → #duplicate-media

7) Security & Maintenance

  • Uses the standard wp_upload_dir() path for all copies.

  • Performs full nonce and capability checks.

  • Ensure that the uploads directory is writable on your server.

  • The plugin does not communicate with external APIs or external servers.

8) Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause & Solution
“You do not have permission.” User role lacks upload_files capability.
“Attachment not found / File not found.” The original file was deleted or moved.
“Uploads directory is not available.” Check wp_upload_dir() paths and permissions.
“File copy failed.” File system permissions, quotas, or disk space issue.
“Failed to create the attachment.” Database insert or metadata generation failed.
Translations not loaded. Verify that the /languages folder and files exist.

9) FAQ

Q: Does it copy image sizes and metadata?
A: Yes. The plugin regenerates all image sizes and metadata via WordPress core functions.

Q: Does it keep the ALT text?
A: Yes, if the original attachment has an ALT value.

Q: Where do I enter my license?
A: Go to Settings → Lieska Plugin Licenses → #duplicate-media.

Q: Does it require an OpenAI API key?
A: No. Duplicate Media works fully offline and makes no API calls.
(Other Lieska plugins such as AI Alt Text require an API key.)

Q: Does it support CRON or WP-CLI?
A: No background jobs — duplication is always triggered manually from the Media Library.
